Audi style Ribbon LED on A/C

I saw someone do this with a 19" flexible LED strip, but I didn't think it would fit with stock bumper, so I bought the ribbon LED strip from oznium.com and put it flush under the headlights. althought I bought "cool white" looks too purplish for me, I'm kind of dissapointed with the color. Anyways, Installation doesn't require you to you remove the bumpers, just slide them in and hard wire it to a 10A minifuse from your fuse box. i used the "clearance lights" fuse so It would turn on with the light switch.

This is my first post, but I've been looking at this forum alot (especially at work ) Thx to everyone who's advice I've used.

Looks hot man! Great Job. Post up pics of where you mounted the strips on the headlights.

BTW, the LED flexible strips does fit between the headlight and stock bumper. Someone here has already done it.

Looks great, but seeing that ugly yellow turn signal takes away the beauty of it. Then again there is some glare so I am sure it looks alot better in real life.

Alright guys, I had some chance to open it up and show the wiring of it.

This is an overhead shot of the headlights, notice there is an orange strip between the bumper and the lights, thats where I slid in the LED ribbon, fits pretty perfectly.

Now, you're going to want to wrap up your connectors pretty good so it doesn't get wet, and run it up the corner, leading to the hood (left side of this picture)

Now, install it for both driver and passenger side, when you have those ready, run the passenger side wires to the driver's side, where the fuse box is. I tapped the positives together and the negatives together to keep things neat.

Now, look the the left side of the picture, I have my needle nose pliers gripped on the "clearance lights" fuse. you can choose whatever fuse thats 10A you like, but this particular one would make your LEDS come on when your yellow DRL lights are on, or when your headlights are on. PULL This fuse out CAREFULLY, its hard to pull it straight out, so get an angle and pull the sides.
(this picture is upside downs BTW)

that little red fuse has 2 sides to it, each with a little hole exposing the contact underneath, it'll be enough for your to solder through the top of it, do so and attach a wire to it. (or you can buy minifuse taps)

Now plug that little fuse back in and twitsy it good with your 2 positives from the lights, than wrap that **** up real good with electrical tape.

Now all you have to do is twitsy up you negative ends and connect it to any Nut in the car (since all metal nuts work as grounds). Clamp it under a nut that isn't exposed to water.

Turn on your lights, test if it works, if it does, find clean ways of running the wires from your passenger side lights over to the fuse box (avoid any hot areas or the hood clamp). to be safe, I wrapped all my **** up with electrical tape, it also makes it look cleaner also.

Here are some finished product pics, it's a pretty moddest mod, barely noticable so I don't think cops will pull you over. I do suggest that you get "neutral white" LEDS instead of cool white, unless you light purple lights on your car. I bought 3 foot worth of ribbon LEDS, and cut every 21 LEDs, leaving you with about 8 inches of strip left over.

Ty, Yeah, its the "ribbon LED" at oznium.com. It claims that they are water/weather proof just like the thin LED strips that other members have put on their bumpers.

After you cut the ribbons, how do you connect the wires? Specifically, what connectors did you use? With christmas rolling around, and with the recent rsb sale, I only have enough $$ for cheap mods for a while. I am planning on doing the Audi style Ribbon mod and the footwell mod but I am not so bright in the electrical world. Looks so nice~ Can't sleep until I click the buy button.

You just solder it on, they sell solder irons at radioshack for $8. I taped it up tightly afterwards with electrical tape, but some people suggest using silicone.

Those look REALLY good!!

I think I may just have to try this out for myself during the winter downtime.

Can you post a pic of how you ran your wire from your passenger side to your driver's side for the fuse box. I'd like to know how clean it looks inside under the hood.

How did you actually keep the led ribbon in place? Looking at my car, I see the gap between the headlight and the bumper, but I don't see anything behind the gap it to stick it to. What keeps it from falling inside the bumper?

I ordered 3 feet worth of lights, they come as 1 long strip, and then you just cut them.

Although there's nothing behing the gap between your bumpers and lights, the deeper in you get, the tighter it gets, so it doesn't really budge past the 1st cm (you might have to push a little to get the strip in because of friction), If you want to be sure, you could always take off the bumper and use the adhesive bottom to position it in place on the bumper.

I drove by a few cops here in WA on small streets and none of them seemed to mind, although I was pretty scared doing so...

Lookin' good! I was worried about the 5-0 pulling me over for them too, but I've haven't had a problem with them so far. One time that I was pulled over (for an entirely different reason) it was starting to get dark out but I didn't have my headlights on (only the LED strip) and the cop said nothing about it. I think that as long as they're white they can't legally do anything about it.

If you followed Stillen's included instructions you wouldn't have sag. It's due to a piece from the OEM bumper that was removed that should have stayed to give support to the Stillen Fascia.

I made sure my shop understood that most shops forget to keep that part in there, and they left it there on mine. I have no sag at all. The sag stories is what kept me from buying the fascia in the first place, but not I am VERY glad I did-- I get comments all the time!

Dont know why this particular thread has been so popular, its been done before in both the sedan and A/C forums. Personally I think it looks cheap. If it were inside the headlight though, that would be sick. But for the price of this compared to a retrofit, I guess itll suffice.

Nope...mine are most definitely a "cool" white. I got these ones here: http://www.oznium.com/thin-led-strip
They only have one choice for white and this was it. I wouldn't worry about your local ham & bacon...if they give you a ticket, just fight it. As far as I know, they have no grounds on which to give you one.
